Automated Meter Reading System Installation to Proceed

Over the last several months, we have been testing the Two-Way Automatic Communications System (TWACS) automated meter reading system on approximately 230 meters in our most remote substation in Garza County.  We selected this area because of its remoteness and the diversity of the meters. This automated meter reading system will allow us to retrieve our meter readings via power lines rather than physically going to each location. We have determined that it will be able to read our meters.

We will proceed with the installation of automated meters throughout our system. The project will take approximately three years to complete. We will begin the next phase of our installation in the Albany, Lueders, and Nugent areas. We currently have the meters and related equipment on order and will begin installing the new meters as soon as possible.

The TWACS system also has the capability to assess outage locations, control system load, and disconnect selected meters remotely. The system has many other available features for future use. We are excited about the project and how it will allow us to better serve our members.
